Technology Tasks

The Technology curriculum is well suited to the self-directed independent style that Homework For Success caters to. There are numerous student-designed tasks in this area as well. tasks are design tasks, but it is expected that there will be refinements to this.

Choose one task and write down what it says. Work your way through it and then hand it in to your teacher. Submit it via email if that is possible or physically give it to the teacher. Expect to be given your marks at the last assembly of term.

Task #1

Create your own design for a local skatepark. Research the best designs. Find out how much it would cost to build it. How much does concrete cost? How much will you need? How thick does it have to be and how big an area will it need to cover? What else does a skatepark need? Ramps, jumps, rails? Who could sponsor or supply materials for it? Who pays for them in other towns and cities? Present this feasibility study as a neat and tidy document or submit it online here as a pdf or powerpoint and put some pressure on the local council to get one built for you.

Task #2

Design the Perfect School.

Using a computer program, such as Paint, Photoshop, Paintshop pro, Paint.Net or anything similar, design and draw the perfect school. Answer these questions with your design, using either attached notes or as a report that goes with the diagram.

What does it have in it?

Where/how do you learn?

What subjects does this school offer?

How many teachers and studenst are there at this school?

Task #3

Zoo Design

Design and draw a new Zoo for your hometown. Design one that takes into account the normal lifestyle requirements of various species such as Leopards and Bear. Unfortunately, you only have a limited amount of space available of about 10 hectares, and you are restricted to a budget of just1.8 Million dollars. What will you need and where will you get it all? Are your design features humane? Will the animals suffer? Should they be in a zoo at all? If not, write a detailed argument against the construction of a zoo. Email your argument. Submit a photograph(s) of your designs via email.

Task # 4

You have been asked to submit your design for a new local community aquatic centre and gymnasium. You also have to choose whether it is built at the local high school or on Council-held land. Justify your decision and include all options. Your design needs to be comprehensive and include a scale model. Photograph and email in progress reports. Submit completed model to teacher before end of term.

Task # 5 Models

Make a sketch of a really cool skateboard park that you would like to see in your town. Make a paper mache model of it about 1 metre x 1 metre. Photograph it and send in the pics via email. Bring in the real thing too.

(S. Clark, Yr7)

Task # 6

Clothing Mad

Design an item of clothing and make it out of newspaper and sellotape. Colour it in and put it on. Photograph it on you and email in the pictures.
